“Sea Foam” was an experimental piece using home made pouring tools. Two DIY Colanders were constructed from plastic drinking cups and wine bottle tops.
The intention was to pour paint somewhat evenly into the two cups at the same time. The cups each had a dozen holes drilled into their bases and a wine bottle top glued there to elevate the cup bottom off he canvas. This allowed the paint to pour out through the drilled holes and onto the canvas with some geometric patterning.
The paint was allowed to flow through the mini colanders until enough paint was on the canvas. Using these tools gave us the ring like effect colander pours are known for.
Once the Colanders had been whisked away, the tilting began to stretch out the paint and develop the composition.
Not only were the paint colours selected beguiling but watching a colander pour being tiled is mesmerising, with the geometric pattern sliding and deforming as the paint rolls across the canvas.
The result was a beautiful high flow acrylic pour painting in blues and aquas.
