“Blown Away” was an experimental piece trialling the hairdryer technique with white negative space. Here the paint was stretched using the hairdryer to push the paint in all directions until a pleasing composition was reached.

“Blown Away” shows what effects are possible with the hairdryer and to what degree the paint is mixed with adjacent colours by using this method.

Using the hairdryer can give a poured piece additional gravity and direction unachievable otherwise. The paint can be pushed and stretched in opposing directions that would not be possible by tilting the canvas alone.

The hairdryer though can be quite vicious and in pushing the paint with force tends to mix the paint, possibly to a degree that is not ideal or desired. You will notice with this piece when watching the video that pushing the first puddle created a warm brown colour off to the left which had not been added to the dirty cup but was the result of paint fully mixing.

The result is a very lacy piece where the paint has interacted well with negative space white background, resembling a fossilised coral or other organic growth that has been penetrated by time.
